I totally agree with everything you've said. I feel like RTD's finales have been getting worse and worse every year because he just keeps adding on to them to the point where they become so unbelievable that you totally check out. For example, as sci-fi fans, we don't need a good reason for why the master can shoot energy out of his hands like the emperor from Star Wars and leap tall buildings in a single bound, but we do need A reason. Especially since the effects were bad and it didn't lead to a good fight scene or anything. Actually, now that I think about it it really seemed totally pointless. Like don't you think the Master would figure out that the reason he's so starving is because he's wasting all his energy being Superman? I mean, the whole point is that the Master is at least as smart as the Doctor. So how wouldn't he go "Hey, maybe the reason I'm so hungry is that I just shot a billion Calories out of my hands"? Also, now that you've given the Master powers it makes him a less perfect foil for the Doctor. I always thought the point of the Master, and why the Master was so terrifying, is that the Doctor is fighting someone just like him, but mad (which is why I think Simm chose to play the Master's madness very close to Tennant's take on the Doctor, and why the Master is so likeable), and now that the Master has these powers, that relationship is more like the Emperor hitting Luke with those energy blasts over and over than a man fighting his reflection.
Also, the whole regeneration=dying thing is crap. And you'd think that after having regenerated nine times the Doctor would have come to terms with it by now.
I think this episode has really been RTD at his worst: overblown and unbelievable sci-fi and poor characterization that exists only for emotional manipulation and false drama.
