LAST NIGHT I WAS TRYING TO FIND FREEWARE TO BURN MY ELISABETH AVI TO A DVD AND INCLUDE THE SUBTITLES AND I ENDED UP JUST BUYING A PROGRAM BUT THEN I GOT ALL PISSED BECAUSE IT WAS TAKING TOO LONG TO SEND ME THE REGISTRATION CODE THING SO INSTEAD I JUST STARTED TRYING TO FIND A CRACK AND INSTEAD I FOUND A VIRUS AND THEN MY WHOLE DANG LAPTOP CRASHED AND NO I DIDN'T BACK UP MY SIMS AND NOW THEY'RE WIPING THE MEMORY AND I'M ON A LOANER AND THE ONE EMAIL IN MY INBOX WAS THE DANG CONFIRMATION CODE IF I'D JUST WAITED A LITTLE BIT LONGER BEFORE I TRIED DOWNLOADING THAT CRAP OR USED THE COMMON SENSE NOT TO DOWNLOAD AND RUN A FILE I DIDN'T TRUST NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED FRICKITY FRICK FRICK FRICK

In other news, we'll be having a memorial service for my departed Sims.  And I managed to watch the Lestat with Hugh video last night before my laptop died and I have a DVD of Tanz.  I shall do what I can to make it an avi.

Erin,

According to the support ticket in the ITS system you gave them explicit permission to reimage your HD if needed and they think you took all your files off. If that's not actually true, you could probably contact them and try to get it back and get your files back off or even just ask them to contact you before reimaging the machine? It doesn't look like they've reimaged yet.

As a member of ResNET, I'd also like to point out that you have an RCC in your dorm (Amanda Loy in 212) in your dorm, and there are quite a few of us around. Next time you can have one of us come in and look at your machine before you give it off to the ITRC (although if you wanted the loaner immediately that was probably the best option).

But very sad. :(

It would have taken, like, hours to back up all that crap right there, and I hate that. I backed up Elisabeth and Lestat and pictures of David Tennant (most of my other stuff is still on my external hard drive from that time in November when my hard drive asploded) and figured I could live with that.

(And perhaps I'm being melodramatic, as I haven't actually played the Sims since Sunday and it WAS taking up a LOT of space.)

Also, Amanda Loy is NEVER in her room.

If she's never in her room and you can't leave messages for her, you should probably make a ticket by going to help.unc.edu -> Create a Help Ticket -> login -> select "ResNET On-Site Support" and make her come to you. Then, everything's logged in the system and if she doesn't get back to you in a timely fashion (eg 24 hours) then you can complain to ResNET management and get things escalated and say she's not meeting RCC requirements. Also re her:I heard the printer was gimped for a really long time.

Stupidly, you're in "ResNET-Middle" and not ResNET-North so you're in a different administrative group from me.

Unfortunately, I didn't know about the ticket service, I needed a computer for homework, and, uh, my laptop was broken (thus preventing me from visiting websites at all).

Yeah, I started to back up all my Sims once to my hard drive, and it took about ten minutes to move, like, .01%. I'm certainly not blaming the IT crowd for the laptop wipery that's ensued. I'm impatient and this is what I get.

Eh, maybe over the summer I'll get the Sims 3 or something. I've become rather zen about the whole thing.
